ASHE – Walnut Brown Suede
Crafted in walnut-brown suede leather, this Ashe has a deep, warm surface whose soft texture provides a rich foundation for one of the brighter bead compositions within the collection.
The strap is entirely hand-beaded in mixed, vivid colours, with a palette predominantly influenced by Turkana colour traditions.
Against the depth of the walnut suede, the brighter beadwork introduces rhythm and contrast, giving this Ashe a particularly expressive character.
The piece features zipped compartments at the front and back, with the central mouth opening secured by a round solid-brass snap closure.
A square button of dark brown camel bone provides an additional natural accent, small but distinctive detail set against the suede, beadwork and brass.
Inside, printed African cotton fabric introduces another layer of pattern and colour.
Ashe means “thank you” in Maasai.
Inspired by the traditional Maasai Olbene bag, Ashe begins with a form rooted in carrying and reinterprets it through Akire’s contemporary language.
This edition brings another conversation into that story.
The Maasai-referenced form meets the vivid colour language of Turkana-influenced beadwork, grounded by walnut-brown suede and finished with solid brass and dark camel bone.
Four material expressions; suede, bead, brass and bone come together through the hand, allowing tradition to be acknowledged without remaining static.
A contemporary object of gratitude, made to carry its story forward.
