ASHE – Cinnamon Suede
Crafted in warm cinnamon-brown suede, this Ashe has a soft, tactile surface that gives richness and tonal depth to its earthy shade.
Inspired by the traditional Maasai Olbene bag, the familiar form has been reimagined by Akire with contemporary function while retaining a strong connection to its cultural reference.
Mixed-colour beadwork is worked entirely by hand across the front of the piece, beginning along the shoulder strap and continuing down the frontal body to the base.
The uninterrupted beadwork creates a strong vertical expression against the softness of the suede, making the front as much a decorative composition as a functional part of the bag.
At the front, a camel-bone accessory introduces a natural sculptural detail, complementing the leather and beadwork through another material connected to the landscape.
A zipped compartment through the middle and an additional zip pocket at the back bring discreet
functionality to the form.
The interior is finished in African cotton fabric.
Ashe means “thank you” in Maasai a name chosen as an expression of gratitude.
The collection looks to the traditional Maasai Olbene bag as its point of departure, carrying elements of an established form into a contemporary Akire object.
In this edition, cinnamon suede, mixed-colour hand beadwork and camel bone meet in one composition each material bringing its own texture, character and relationship to making.
