Ashe – Cafe Noir Brown With Twisted Bead Works.

A warm Cafe Noir -brown leather piece, Ashe is Akire’s contemporary interpretation inspired by the traditional Maasai Olbene bag.

Its elongated form is punctuated by a central compartment with a brass snap and a discreet zipped pocket at the back, bringing modern function to a silhouette rooted in pastoral life.

The shoulder strap is entirely hand-beaded in a composition of mixed colours, giving each piece its own rhythm and character.

The interior is finished in African print cotton fabric, introducing another layer of textile and colour against the richness of the brown leather.

Ashe means “thank you” in Maasai. The name carries the spirit in which the piece was created: gratitude for knowledge, making and forms that have travelled through generations.

Inspired by the old Maasai Olbene bag, Akire reimagines its familiar language for the present, retaining a connection to its origin while introducing contemporary proportions, functionality, and finishing.

It is an object of appreciation: for where we come from, and for what traditional forms can become through thoughtful reinterpretation.
