ASHE – Dark Sand Brown Suede
Ashe means “thank you” in Maasai.
Inspired by the traditional Maasai Olbene bag, this Ashe finds its expression close to the colours of the earth.
Crafted in dark sand-brown suede, this Ashe draws from a restrained, earthy palette.
The suede has a softly textured surface, giving the brown subtle shifts in depth as the piece moves and is handled.
The piece is hand-beaded in mixed earth tones, chosen to sit naturally against the dark sand colour rather than sharply contrast with it.
The beadwork brings texture and rhythm to the surface, celebrating the detail of work done entirely by hand.
At the base sits a square button carved from darker camel bone, a small but distinctive natural detail that anchors the beadwork and gives this Ashe its individual signature.
Its construction features three zipped sections ; front, centre and back creating separate functional compartments within the Olbene-inspired form.
The interior is finished in printed African cotton, introducing pattern and colour beneath the subdued exterior.
Dark sand-brown suede forms its foundation.
Earth-toned beads are worked by hand across the piece, ending at the base with a darker square of camel bone.
The materials are deliberately quiet together suede, bead and bone allowing texture and craftsmanship to take precedence over ornament.
Three zipped sections bring contemporary function to the traditional reference, creating an object made not simply to be observed, but carried and lived with.
