ASHE – Kobicha Brown Suede with Markings
Crafted in earthy Kobicha-brown suede, this Ashe is distinguished by hand-beaded detailing in Jamaican-inspired green, yellow and black, bringing a bold rhythm of colour against the depth of the brown leather.
The piece features zipped compartments at the front and back, while the central mouth opening is secured with a round solid-brass snap closure.
The warmth of the brass sits naturally alongside the earthen suede and saturated beadwork.
Look closely and the leather reveals natural markings inherited from the hide itself.
Rather than concealing every irregularity, this Ashe allows traces of the material’s former life to remain visible.
Variations in grain, tone and surface become part of the individual character of the object a reminder that natural material does not begin from absolute uniformity.
For this reason, this particular Ashe cannot be replicated exactly.
Its markings belong to this piece alone.
Ashe means “thank you” in Maasai.
Inspired by the traditional Maasai Olbene bag, Ashe is Akire’s contemporary interpretation of a form rooted in movement and utility.
This edition speaks particularly closely to Akire’s relationship with nature.
The hide has not arrived perfectly uniform, nor have we asked it to appear so.
Its markings are allowed to remain as part of its history.
Against the Kobicha brown, green, yellow and black beadwork brings an unexpected vibrancy, while solid brass anchors the centre.
Nature leaves a mark.
The hands that make Ashe give it another.
