Sculpted from vegetable-tanned kips leather, this Amuka is distinguished by its elongated, bottle-shaped body, which extends into a rounded, calabash-inspired base.

It is the only Amuka within the collection created in this particular silhouette, making it a singular expression of the form.

The leather is softened with water and moulded by hand over over a carved form before being left to dry naturally under the sun.

This slow process allows the material to settle into its own contours, giving the face and body an individual character that cannot be reproduced exactly.

An ellipse-shaped mouth crowns the elongated body.

It is completed by a sculptural lid constructed from five individually cut cut and stacked layers of leather.

The layered construction gives the lid depth, strength and an architectural finish while complement preserving the organic the organic movement of the silhouette.

Each section of the bag is assembled and stitched entirely by hand.

The visible hand-stitching forms part of the object’s character, recording the precision and time invested in its making.

As the piece is handled and carried, the vegetable-tanned leather will gradually soften, deepen in tone and develop a patina particular to its collector.
