Amuka Sculpted Face With A Structured Leather Flap

Amuka means “to wake up” in Kamba.

Conceived as a sculptural interpretation of the human face, each piece carries an individual expression shaped by the movement of hand, leather, water and time.

Sculpted from vegetable-tanned kips leather.

The leather is softened with water, moulded by hand over a carved form and left to dry naturally under the sun.

Through this process, every face develops its own expression, contours and dimensions.

No two Amuka pieces are identical.

This Amuka is fully embellished with beadwork applied by hand.

A shaped leather flap covers the opening and is secured with a vintage-inspired brass push-lock closure.

The brass is left unplated, allowing it to age naturally alongside the leather.

The vegetable-tanned leather will soften and deepen in colour over time, developing a patina unique to the life of its collector.
