Sculpted from vegetable-tanned kips leather, this Amuka is distinguished by a strongly protruding, youthful face.
The naturally wrinkled texture of the leather gives the surface depth and movement, creating a compelling contrast between the young expression and the time-worn character of the material.

Across the forehead, scarification markings arranged in linear rows evoke the sculptural rhythm of cornrows.
These markings accentuate the contours of the face and give this Amuka its individual identity.

The leather is softened with water, moulded by hand over a carved form and left to dry naturally under the sun.
This gradual process allows shapes every expression differently, ensuring that no two Amuka faces are identical.

The piece features an ellipse-shaped mouth and a sculptural lid constructed from five individually cut and stacked layers of leather.

This layered construction gives the lid depth, strength and a pronounced architectural finish.
