Aaku – Spider Black Suede
Crafted in Spider Black suede, this Aaku is defined by hand beadwork in a palette rooted in Samburu colour traditions.
Set against the depth of the black suede, the colours become particularly vivid bringing rhythm, texture and character to the compact form.
Each bead is applied individually by hand, preserving the slight variations and evidence of craftsmanship that make every Aaku distinct.
The beadwork moves from the body onto the strap, allowing the colour composition to become part of both the object and the way it is carried.
Here, Aaku brings different cultural languages into conversation.
Its form traces back to the traditional Maasai Olbene, while its bead palette draws from the distinctive use of colour found within Samburu adornment.
Aaku means “I Am” in Maasai an affirmation of identity expressed through material, colour and the hand.
