Aaku – Bitter Black
Crafted in Bitter Black suede, this Aaku brings together a deep, saturated ground with hand-applied beadwork in a considered mix of orange, white and green.
The colours move across the dark suede in measured contrasts ; orange introducing warmth, white bringing clarity, and green adding an earthy accent.
Each bead is engaged by hand, giving the surface its individual rhythm and preserving the subtle variations that distinguish handwork from repetition.
The beadwork continues from the body of the bag onto the strap, allowing the craftsmanship to remain visible whether Aaku is carried or placed as an object.
Soft suede provides a tactile counterpoint to the intricacy of the beadwork, while Aaku’s compact proportions retain the sculptural character of its larger counterpart, Ashe.
Inspired by the traditional Maasai Olbene, Aaku means “I Am” in Maasai -an affirmation of identity expressed through material, colour and the hand of the maker.
