Akidoun -Sculpted Elephant Form

Akidoun is the name given to Akire’s elephant-moulded form.

Meaning “to give birth” in Turkana, it honours the African savanna elephant as a symbol of life, memory and continuity.

The stretched-leather effect defines the elephant’s sculptural contours.

An elliptical opening is crowned with a lid formed from five stacked layers of leather, while the reverse is finished with scarified markings.
Each piece is hand-moulded and hand-stitched in vegetable-tanned leather.
