Akidoun – Sculpted Elephant Form: Calabash Vessel

This Akidoun has a distinctive ovoid, bottle-like form, widening towards a sculpted calabash base.

Strongly defined ears and an expressive trunk give the elephant mould a commanding presence, while its unusual proportions and size distinguish it from every other.

Akidoun. Meaning “to give birth” in Turkana, Akidoun honours the African savanna elephant as a symbol of life, memory and continuity.

Crafted from vegetable-tanned kip leather and lined with African cotton, each piece is hand-moulded and hand-stitched by three artisans over 26–30 days.
