Akidoun with Gourd Form with Sculpted Calabash Base.
This Akidoun takes a rounded gourd form, resting upon a distinct calabash-inspired base.
Hand-stitching follows the base’s contours, defining its shape and giving the silhouette a strong architectural finish.
The elephant’s pronounced ears evoke the silhouette of the African continent, creating a powerful connection between the sculpted form, the land and the species it honours.
Meaning “to give birth” in Turkana, Akidoun is handcrafted from vegetable-tanned kip leather and finished with an African cotton lining.
Each piece is hand-moulded and hand-stitched by three artisans over 26–30 days.
