An individually sourced Lee denim in washed blue, selected for its 100% cotton composition and reworked through Akire’s hand-beaded beetle motif.
Six beetles are placed across the front, three on either side, each rendered entirely in green.
Against the softened blue of the original denim, the singular palette gives the composition a sense of continuity, allowing the eye to follow the repetition of form from one side to the other.
At the back pocket, a seventh beetle continues the same green beadwork.
Rather than introducing another colour, the composition remains intentionally restrained; the distinction is found instead in placement and in the subtle variations that emerge through the hand.
The beetle has long remained within Akire’s language of observation.
Here, its form is repeated across an existing garment, transforming the familiar surface of denim through patience, rhythm and handwork.
