An individually sourced Lee denim in graphite black, selected for its 100% cotton composition and regular silhouette, then given another life through Akire beadwork.
Across the front, six Akire beetles are worked by hand three on either side.
Gold and black beads are mixed within each beetle, creating a play between what is revealed and what recedes against the depth of the graphite denim.
The black beads sit quietly within the original ground, while touches of gold bring the form forward. As the light changes, so does the presence of the beetle.
At the back pocket, the composition changes colour entirely.
A single beetle in green beadwork stands apart from the darker language of the front a considered interruption that gives the reverse its own expression.
Worked individually, bead by bead, the piece allows a recurring Akire form to be experienced through contrast, light and the variations of the hand.
