An individually sourced Calvin Klein Jeans denim in pale sky blue, selected for its 100% cotton composition and bootleg silhouette, then given another life through Akire beadwork.
Across the front, the Akire beetle moves between the familiar and the unexpected.
Two complete beetles are worked by hand,one on either side through a mixed palette of red, orange, green, yellow, dark blue, glass green and gold.
The composition then shifts.
On one side, only the lower body of the beetle appears.
On the other, its head. Separated across the denim, the familiar motif becomes an artistic study of form asking how much of a symbol needs to remain before we still recognise it.
At the back, the beetle returns through mixed Maasai beadwork colours, bringing the fragmented composition back to the language of the House.
Each element is formed bead by bead, allowing colour, placement and the hand to give a familiar Akire symbol another expression.
