An individually sourced Gia denim in rinse wash, selected for its 100% cotton composition and distinctive waist construction, then reworked through an Akire beadwork expression inspired by the branching forms of roots.
Violet blue, red and yellow beads travel across approximately three quarters of the denim. The lines branch and change direction as they move, creating an irregular network rather than a repeated pattern.
The root remains the point of observation, but not something to be reproduced literally. Its natural tendency to spread, divide and find new directions gives the hand a starting point from which the composition can evolve.
The original denim brings another element to the piece: a deconstructed button detail at the waist that can be used to adjust and play with its sizing.
Akire works with this existing construction rather than removing it, allowing the character of the sourced garment to remain visible within its next expression.
At the back pocket, a violet-blue Akire mark completes the work.
