An individually sourced Rustler denim in steel blue, selected for its 100% cotton composition and reworked through Akire’s root-inspired beadwork.
Across the upper half of the denim, glass green, yellow and red beads branch through the surface, extending from the upper front towards the knees.
Here, the composition deliberately comes to a close, leaving the lower denim untouched.
The pocket entrances are drawn into the work, with beadwork following their edges before moving into the branching lines below.
The result allows the original construction of the denim to guide parts of the composition rather than working independently of it.
Inspired by the way roots divide, travel and find their own direction, the beadwork is not held to symmetry.
Each line is allowed to branch differently, while the point at which the work ends creates a distinct transition between the worked and unworked denim.
At the back pocket, the Akire beetle appears in a divided expression: one half worked in red, the other in mixed bead colours. A familiar House mark, interpreted differently within this piece.
This piece reflects Akire’s ongoing vision of upcycling—not as reuse alone, but as cultural infusion, where garments become vessels of story, skill, and identity.
