A sourced Liz Claiborne denim in olive black, selected for its 100% cotton composition and straight-leg silhouette, then transformed through Akire’s beetle beadwork.
Across the front, six Akire beetles are worked by hand in red, three placed on either side of the denim.
Against the depth of the olive-black ground, the singular colour gives the repeated beetle form a strong, defined presence while allowing the rhythm of the composition to remain clear.
The back introduces a deliberate change.
At the pocket, a seventh beetle is worked predominantly in light green, punctuated with touches of white a subtle departure from the red composition at the front.
Seven beetles. Two expressions of colour.
Each formed bead by bead, with the variations of the hand remaining part of the work.
