A sourced Denim Co. piece in ice blue, selected for its 100% cotton composition and original slim silhouette, then transformed through Akire’s beetle beadwork.
Across the front, four Akire beetles are worked by hand,two on either side of the denim. Within each beetle, yellow and blue beads are brought together in a mixed composition, allowing colour to move through the form rather than sit as a single, uniform tone.
Against the clarity of the ice-blue denim, the two colours bring definition and variation to the motif while preserving the lightness of the original wash.
A fifth beetle appears at the back pocket, continuing the composition beyond the front and completing the piece.
Worked individually, bead by bead, each beetle carries the subtle variations of the hand – one recurring Akire form, interpreted through colour and placement.
