An individually sourced Lee Cooper denim in an eggshell cream, selected for its 100% cotton composition and reworked through Akire’s horizontal beadwork.
Across the pale ground of the denim, lines of dark brown, white, blue and black beads move horizontally across the garment.
The palette shifts between colours that sit quietly against the eggshell surface and those that create a stronger interruption.
Here, the direction of the beadwork becomes the defining gesture. Rather than following the length of the denim, the hand works across it, changing the way the eye reads its proportion and giving an existing garment another expression through line, colour and placement.
Each horizontal passage is worked bead by bead in Kenya, retaining the small variations that belong to work made by hand.
