AKIDUWANG
The Small Gourd Form( Red Bead Work)
Akiduwang takes its form from the African gourd, an object shaped by nature and carried through generations as part of everyday life.
Interpreted through the language of Akire, its familiar rounded form becomes a sculptural leather object, moulded and finished slowly by hand.
Crafted from vegetable-tanned kip leather, Akiduwang is
hand-moulded, hand-stitched and finished with Red beadwork.
Inside, an African-print cotton lining introduces an intimate layer of pattern and colour, revealed to its wearer.
Compact in scale yet distinctive in form, Akiduwang is created to be carried as both a functional object and a piece of wearable sculpture.
Each piece carries subtle variations in its leather, form, beadwork and hand-finishing individual traces of the hands involved in its making.
